The Achaemenid Dynasty

Darius I of Persia

Darius I (522–486 BC)

Portrayed as the King of Spades

The Achaemenid Dynasty ruled over one of the largest empires known to this world.  From Egypt to Afganistan, the Persian Empire flourished as trade was expanded, governments were centralized, and cultures were mixed.

Darius I ( also known as Darius the Great) successfully ruled the Persian Empire for 35 years.  During his glorious reign, the Empire reached its peak in size, as the Shahhanshah (Great King) led armies into the Indus Valley and the Caucasus.

Darius I joined his empire together by building the Royal Road which stretched more than 1,500 miles.  Darius I is also known for being the founder of Persepolis, arguably the grandest city of the ancient world.
