Abbas I (1587-1629 AD)
Portrayed as the King of Diamonds | During the Safavid Dynasty, Persian culture bloomed. While the dynasty fought off the Ottoman and Mughal Empires, cities were built, mosques were decorated, and poetry was written.
Shah Abbas I reconquered many Persian lands from the Ottoman, Mughal, Portuguese, and Uzbek occupiers. Along with reasserting Persian independence, Abbas the Great constructed the beautiful Shah Jame' Mosque, the royal Ali Qapu Palace, and the grand Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan. |
